Research & Development
MOBBTA have started initiatives with a number of independent testing houses and consultants, to develop minimum standard quality levels for UK-sold MgO etc boards.
These initiatives, developed in conjunction with the major building insurance, warranty-providers and third-party construction-industry verifiers, are intended to provide the comfort for specifiers and end-users about the quality of products being sold by MOBBTA members in the first instance, and ultimately any company wishing to sell Mg-based building boards.
Currently MOBBTA have a set of minimum BS / EN based criteria that all members must achieve for their boards before they can apply to join the Trade Association (see section under Membership drop-down). These have been developed with external consultancy advice and other Trade Associations in the field.
MOBBTA have also developed a long-term R+D programme to develop greater understanding of MgO board performance under high or fluctuating humidity and temperature range -particularly for boards being used within rainscreen facades or semi-protected from full climatic exposure.
Final approval by the stakeholders (inc insurers and verifiers etc) of the precise contents of the programme is hopefully to be agreed in May/Jun 19.
